So, lets begin...
We will start by singing along the prayer song 'This little light of mine'
So in the previous blog, we learnt about disciples and apostles.
An apostle means a person who is sent.
That is, an apostle is a person sent by Jesus to do what He told them to do.
Why did Jesus appoint exactly twelve apostles?
Jesus appointed exactly twelve apostles because of the twelve tribes of Israel.
In other words, the twelve apostles represented the twelve tribes of Israel.
God chose the weak and made them strong
Another important thing we notice in the selection of the apostles is that the majority of them were fishermen.
The fishermen were poor and uneducated people but they were strong and hardworking people.
He chose them and trained them to do His work both in His life time and also after death and resurrection.
In the Old Testament too we have seen examples of how God chose very simple and unimportant people to do His work.
Do you remember the story of David the son of Jesse?
👉Watch this video below if you have forgotten it
David wasn't the oldest, he wasn't the tallest and he wasn't the strongest. He was only a shepherd boy but God chose him and made him a king.
Why?
This is because God doesn't care whether we are fair or not fair, tall or short, thin or chubby.
God looks at the heart.
So, what do we learn from this lesson?
This lesson reminds us of the importance of choosing friends wisely.
Just as Jesus prayed before choosing his twelve apostles. It was very important for Jesus to chose people who are trustworthy and obedient.
It is very important to choose your friends carefully because your friends influence you on how you act, think or live life.
Sometimes the influence of a friends can be good. Sometimes it is bad.
A good friends is one who inspires you to make good choices. He loves Jesus just the way you do.
We should pray for our friends so that they will not sin against God and lead us not to sin, cause pain or hurt us in any way.
Now it's time to answer some questions. Take your Catechism notebook and write down these questions in it. Try to answer these questions yourself.
1. What did Jesus do before appointing the apostles?
2. What is the meaning of the word 'apostles'?
3. Why did Jesus choose only twelve apostles?
4. What special name did Jesus give to Simon?
5. How many apostles had the same names?
Write the following verse in your notebook and memorize it:
John 15,14: "You are my friends if you do what I command."
That's all for today boys! Stay safe and keep revising 😊
