MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION PART-6

WELCOME TO MATHS CLASS!
Hope you have completed the sums on division given in the previous class!
Today we'll learn how to check our answer in case of division.

By the end of our lesson, you will be able to
  • solve the numericals on division
  • verify your answer
  • find the dividend when other terms of division are known
We all have learnt the 'Properties of Division'. So we will use the last property to check our answer in case of division. To understand that, let's watch the following video:

Now let us take an example of a bigger number and understand how to check the division:
Consider the example:

CHECKING: We all know that
  DIVISOR X QUOTIENT + REMAINDER= DIVIDEND  (Property 6)
                   so we put the values here
                                      4 x 173 + 0
                                       692 +0
                                         692 = 692 (dividend)
  Hence, our answer is correct as we get the answer equal to dividend.

Now do (b,c) parts yourself.

Q3. Find the dividend when
(a) Divisor= 79, Quotient= 581, Remainder=14

We know the property:
DIVIDEND= DIVISOR X QUOTIENT + REMAINDER
                   =  79 X 581 + 14                  (Put the given values in the formula)
                   = 45899 + 14
                   = 45913
                            Ans: 45913

(b) Do yourself

Q4. Divide the smallest 7- digit number by the greatest 4 digit number.
Ans   Smallest 7- digit number= 1000000
           Greatest 4- digit number= 9999
