Hope you have done the first five word problems of Exercise 3.3 in your copy. Today, let us continue the exercise doing the questions 6, 9 & 10.

CONCEPT:
To find the value of "many", we need to multiply the value of "one" with the given number.

Please open your text book, turn to page number 41 and underline the following in the questions 6, 9 & 10. Are you ready?  Here we go...
6) ...a page...
9)...a bundle...
10)....a mathematics text book....

You will find  that value of "one" is given and value of "many" is asked. Hence, we should multiply.
This means,"One to Many multiply".  Got it!!!
Now let us do the sums:

6) How many words are there in the whole book of 372 pages, if there are about 452 words on a page?
No. of words on 1 page       =                452
No. of words on 372 pages =                452 x 372
Answer                               =                 452

10) There are 256 pages in a mathematics textbook.  How many pages are there in 2186 books?
No. of pages in 1 text book            =      256
No. of pages in 2186 books           =      2186 x 256

Answer:                                              559616 pages

Home Work:
1. The cruising speed of a jumbo jet is about 900 km per hour. How far could it travel in 24 hours?
2. A pack of pencils contains 85 pencils.  A box contains 235 packets.  How many pencils should be there in a box?

Answers:
1) 21,600 km
2) 19,975 pencils
