GOOD MORNING BOYS:
Today, we are going to discuss word problems of Exercise 4.2 on page 47 in your text book.
By the end of the class you will be able to:
- comprehend a word problem
- apply the concept of subtraction t solve the word problem
- infer the terms "less than" and "more than" in the word problems
Now, open your text book and see Question 1:
1. By how much is 22564 less than 82357?
[note: less than means "subtract"]--------> 82,357

[Note: more than implies "subtraction"----------> 79,864

3. Ajay purchased a colour T.V. for Rs.36,450. He got a discount of Rs.3280. How much did he pay?
[In the case of discount also, we need to do subtraction]
Price of the Color TV = Rs. 36,450
Discount given = Rs. 03,280

Money he paid = Rs. 33,170
-------------
4. The difference of two numbers is 91230. Find the smaller, if the greater number is 271894.
[Note: To find a smaller number of a greater number, we need to subtract the difference from the greater number]
The greater number = 2,71,894
Difference of two numbers= 0,91,230
-----------
The smaller number = 1,80,664
-----------
Boys: As you have understood the above, now you can do these sums by yourself.

Home Work:
1. By how much is 12,345 less than 67,890?
2. By how much is 10,101 more than 9,999?
3. A social organization bought 82948 face masks and distributed 75,362 of them. How many are left out undistributed?
4. The difference of two numbers is 21,456. Find the smaller number, if the greater number is 1,23,456.
